「人鳥書店/ペンギンしょてん」の屋号で発行する同人誌です。

概要

歌で船を惑わせるセイレーン。謎かけをするスフィンクス。見た者を石に変えるゴルゴーン。
古代ギリシアの人々は、なぜ「死」を、翼を持つ女性の怪物の姿で描いたのでしょうか。

いまから2500年ほど前、小アジアの都市クサントスに建てられた墓碑《Harpy Tomb》には、翼ある怪物が人を抱えて飛び去る場面が刻まれています。この怪物は、何者なのか?
本誌は、この一枚のレリーフを出発点に、古代地中海世界の「翼を持つ怪物」たちを一体ずつ辿っていく本です。エジプトの魂の鳥・バーから、セイレーン、スフィンクス、ゴルゴーン、そして「死の運命」の女神ケールまで。彼女たちをつなぐ図像の系譜を追いながら、最後にふたたびあの墓碑の前へ戻ります。

参照文献と引用の出典はすべて巻末に掲載し、ギリシア語の原文も要所で引いています。図版は口絵含め40点以上。323工房が制作してきた怪物の立体造形の写真も収録しました。
神話や古代美術がお好きな方、ゲームや映画で出会った怪物の「元ネタ」が気になったことのある方、造形物として怪物を愛でる方に。
